Alpha arbutin and vitamin C are both prized for brightening skin and fading dark spots, but they work a little differently — and knowing the difference can help you pick the right one, or use both.
Alpha Arbutin
Alpha arbutin works by inhibiting the enzyme responsible for melanin production, making it especially effective for stubborn post-acne marks and sun spots. It's gentle enough for most skin types, including sensitive skin, and pairs well with hyaluronic acid for hydration — like in our Bright Monster Serum.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that brightens skin, evens tone, and helps protect against environmental stressors throughout the day. It tends to work faster on overall radiance but can be more sensitizing for some skin types, especially at higher concentrations.
If you're new to actives, start with one and introduce it 2–3 times a week before working up to daily use. Alpha arbutin is a gentler starting point; vitamin C is great if your main concern is overall glow.
